It is used in the treatment of Androgen-dependent diseases in women such as acne and mild forms of hirsutism.
It is indicated for Oral contraception
Fostine and HCG given in a sequential manner are indicated for the stimulation of follicular recruitment and development; and the induction of ovulation in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and infertility, who have failed to respond or conceive following adequate clomiphene citrate therapy.

In Females: HMG is used in a sequential manner in conjunction with HCG for the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory infertile patient in whom the cause of anovulation is functional (secondary to pituitary insufficiency) and is not due to primary ovarian failure. HMG and HCG may also be used to stimulate the development of multiple follicles in ovulatory patients participating in an in-vitro fertilization program. In Males: HMG is used in conjunction with HCG to stimulate spermatogenesis in primary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (resulting from hypophysectomy, craniopharyngioma, cerebral aneurysm or chromophobe adenoma).

It is indicated as hormone Relacement Therapy for estrogen deficiency symptoms in peri and postmenopausal women; Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of future fractures
It is indicated for the treatment of Toxoplasma gondii to prevent transmission from mother to fetus; treatment of infections of the respiratory tract, buccal cavity, skin and soft tissues due to susceptible organisms; as an alternate choice of treatment for gonorrhea in patients allergic to the penicillins.
It is indicated for - the maintenance of early pregnancy in cases of documented history of repeated misscariages due to luteal phase defect and in selected cases as an adjunct to successful treatment of infertility with techniques such as IVF or GIFT . - for the progesterone withdrawal test in endocrinal evaluation of a case of secondary amenorrhea (where pregnancy is ruled out) to judge oestrogen priming. - for the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding - for threatened abortion
